The 700-horsepower, four-stroke diesel locomotive was built by Illinois-based National Rail and Equipment Corp. and will replace two of the three GE 50-ton locomotives used in the shipyard for decades to move parts of aircraft carriers and submarines around, and sometimes to pull cars that serve as parts storage.
